Artist's Statement
Marion W. Hylton is a portrait and landscape painter in the realist tradition working in watercolor, oil and pastel. Born on a farm in southern Wisconsin, and raised in the Upper Midwest, she was briefly a scholarship student at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. In recent years she has taken numerous workshops with nationally-known artists, and has been an award-winning participant in many juried art shows in the United States. She has had several one-woman shows, and is a signature member of the Florida Watercolor Society and the Texas Watercolor Society. Marion's pastel painting, "Sunset on the South Rim", received the Grand Canyon Purchase Award in the 2007 PaintAmerica show. Her paintings have been in the Top 100 Arts for the Parks show seven times. She won the Region III award in 2000, the Region I award in 2004, and in 2006, the final year of the competition, she won the Grand Prize.
